It’s time to turn your backyard into a bright ray of sunshine by entering the Children's Sunflower Growing Contest. This contest is open to children ages 3 to 12. Contest runs from Mother's Day, May 9, 2010 to September 25, 2010 at the FBBG Harvest Festival.
Awards will be given in the following two categories:
- Tallest Sunflowers
2005 First Place Winner was 141" H
2004 First Place Winner was 11'11"H
- Sunflowers with the Largest Flower Head
2005 First Place Winner was 23" D
2004 First Place Winner was 17-1/2"D
The following contest rules apply:
- FREE sunflower seeds must be obtained at the Education & Visitor Center at the Boerner Botanical Gardens in Whitnall Park between May 9-31, 2010.
- All participants will need to pre-register when they obtain their seeds
- The seeds may be grown in your garden, backyard or a very large container
- The growth of the sunflower will need to be recorded four times throughout the summer
- The sunflower will need to be cut down at the soil line and brought to Boerner Botanical Gardens by noon on Saturday, September 26, 2009.
Judging will take place at Boerner Botanical Gardens on Saturday, September 25, 2010.

Second Place Gift Certificate to Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens Gift Shop
Third Place Children's Gardening Book
