Attention preschoolers, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Come and grow with us! These interactive programs are designed for little ones and include stories, a snack, sing-alongs and of course, a hands-on activity that relates to the theme of the program. What a wonderful way to introduce the concept of gardening to Growing Gardeners!
- Growing Gardeners programs take place on either Monday or Saturdays at 10:30 am or 1:00 pm and last for one hour.
- All scheduled activities below are available for Ages 3 – 5.
- Activities in green are available for Ages 6-8.
- Cost: $12.50 per child
- Classes are held in the Boerner Botanical Gardens Education and Visitor Center.
- Class consists of a botanical theme, hands-on projects and a snack.
- Most projects involve some “messy” work so children should wear clothing that is appropriate.
- Classes are designed for adult(s) to participate with their child(ren), maximum 3.
- Class sizes are limited. Registration is required. No refunds or substitutions.

Dashing and darting about, the dragonflies have a story of their own to tell. Make your own planting that will provide a safe place for a dragonfly.
Apples in August

Sample some crunchy apples while learning about Johnny Appleseed. Find the treasured Johnny Appleseed Tree in our Garden. Take home an apple print of your very own.
Nuts to You

The squirrels are busier than ever collecting nuts of every kind. Let’s read “Dot and Jabber and the Great Acorn Mystery” and go for a nut hunt of our own. Create art with nut shells.
Color Me Autumn

What are the signs of Autumn? Why are leaves so special? What happens to leaves in Autumn? Find out all the things that happen before the gardens are tucked in for the winter. Create a beautiful leaf print to take home.
Stone Soup

Soup made from Stones? Hear the story of Stone Soup
and how a village came together to share their harvest with strangers. Enjoy a cup of vegetable stone soup.

Joy of Ginger

Celebrate the season with a freshly-baked treat! How many different plants can you use to decorate your gingerbread man? Create a scratch-and-sniff greeting card and learn more about the spices used during this holiday season. Plant a bulb for your winter window sill.
